This is the documentation for the USDA-NASS Weekly Crop Progress and Condition files. The files are compressed delimited files. The data are in executable files that will create uncompressed files requiring 6 times the space of the compressed file. Before executing a command, change to the directory where you want the uncompressed file(s) created. Type A:filename without the extension. The filename is the Crop Code and Year Range. Following are commands to make a new directory and uncompress soybeans: C:\> MD CRPROG C:\> CD\CRPROG C:\CRPROG> A:sb9397 THE UNCOMPRESSED soybean FILES WILL BE sb93.csv, sb94.csv, sb95.csv, sb96.csv, & sb97.csv ****************************************************************************** The files are: CROP CROP YEAR CODE NAME RANGE ---- ------------- ----- AR RICE 8592 9397 SW SPRING WHEAT 8592 9397 WW WINTER WHEAT 8592 9397 AS SORGHUM 8592 9397 CR CORN 8592 9397 CT UPLAND 8592 9397 SB SOYBEANS 8592 9397 PR PASTURE/RANGE 9597 OT OATS 9697 BR BARLEY 9697 PN PEANUTS 9697 The data for the years 1985-92 is unchanged from the 1996 release. ****************************************************************************** Only the major production states by crop are required to submit Crop Progress and Condition data that are included in these files. The development progress is stated as a percent of the acreage that has reached or exceeded the stage. The comparable previous 5-year average is also available. The U.S. values are computed by weighting the major state values by the previous year acreage. Missing data or data not available are represented by entries of "-1". Entries of "0" indicate that the commodity has not reached the development stage or if the U.S. record is "0", that the development stage was not evaluated that week. If all condition ratings for a record are "0", the condition was not evaluated. The list of development stages presented by commodity follows. The associated condition ratings are included on the data records by week.
