Inventory estimates refer to August 1, 1995. Placement and marketing estimates refer to the month of July. Cattle on Feed Up 3 Percent in 7 Monthly States Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 7 States preparing monthly estimates totaled 7.70 million head, up 3 percent from a year ago and virtually unchanged from August 1, 1993. Placements in feedlots during July totaled 1.38 million, 13 percent below 1994 and 9 percent below 1993. Net placements of 1.33 million for July were down 14 percent from last year and 7 percent below 1993. Marketings during July totaled 1.74 million, up 1 percent from 1994 and 2 percent above 1993. Other disappearance during July was 55,000 head, no change from last year and 32 percent below 1993. Cattle on Feed in 1000+ Capacity Feedlots Up 5 Percent Cattle and calves on feed August 1, 1995 for the 7 States in the feedlots with 1,000 or more head capacity totaled 7.15 million head, 5 percent above the previous year and 6 percent above 1993. The inventory in the 1,000+ capacity feedlots accounted for 93 percent of the total inventory.
