Inventory estimates refer to September 1, 1995. Placement and marketing estimates refer to the month of August. Cattle on Feed Down Slightly in 7 Monthly States Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 7 States preparing monthly estimates totaled 7.45 million head, down slightly from a year ago and down 4 percent from September 1, 1993. Placements in feedlots during August totaled 1.69 million, 9 percent below both 1994 and 1993. Net placements of 1.64 million for August were down 8 percent from both 1994 and 1993. Marketings during August totaled 1.88 million, up 7 percent from 1994 and up 11 percent from 1993. This is the largest August marketings since the current 7-State data series began in 1972. Other disappearance during August was 50,000 head, 11 percent below last year and 39 percent below 1993. Cattle on Feed in 1,000+ Capacity Feedlots Up 1 Percent Cattle and calves on feed September 1, 1995 for the 7 States in the feedlots with 1,000 or more head capacity totaled 6.96 million head, up 1 percent from last year and slightly above 1993. The inventory in the 1,000+ capacity feedlots accounted for 93 percent of the total inventory.
