Placements and marketing estimates refer to the month of October. Cattle on Feed Up 1 Percent in 7 Monthly States Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 7 States preparing monthly estimates totaled 8.71 million head, up 1 percent from a year ago but down 4 percent from November 1, 1993. Placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.44 million, 2 percent below 1994 and 1993. Net placements of 2.38 million for October was down 2 percent from last year and 1 percent below 1993. Marketings during October totaled 1.64 million, up 1 percent from 1994 and up 6 percent from 1993. Other disappearance during October was 56,000 head, unchanged from 1994 and 26 percent below 1993. Cattle on Feed in 1,000+ Capacity Feedlots Up 3 Percent Cattle and calves on feed November 1, 1995 for the 7 States in the feedlots with 1,000 or more head capacity totaled 8.16 million head, up 3 percent from the previous year but slightly below 1993. The inventory in the 1,000+ capacity feedlots accounted for 94 percent of the total inventory.
