U.S. Cattle on Feed Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 8.59 million head on June 1, 1996. Placements in feedlots during May totaled 1.55 million. Net placements were 1.46 million. During May, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 301,000, 600-699 pounds were 351,000, 700-799 pounds were 523,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 372,000. Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 2.05 million. Other disappearance totaled 84,000 during May. Cattle on Feed in Historic 7 Monthly States Down 11 Percent Cattle on feed June 1, 1996, in the historic 7 monthly States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 7.25 million, down 11 percent from the previous year and 3 percent below June 1, 1994. Placements in feedlots during May totaled 1.30 million, 22 percent below 1995 and 4 percent below 1994. Marketings during May totaled 1.75 million, 5 percent above 1995 and 13 percent above 1994. Other disappearance during May was 58,000 head, 2 percent above last year but 26 percent below 1994.
