U.S. Cattle on Feed Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 7.55 million head on August 1, 1996. Placements in feedlots during July totaled 1.75 million. Net placements were 1.68 million. During July, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 343,000, 600-699 pounds were 406,000, 700-799 pounds were 570,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 427,000. Marketings of fed cattle during July totaled 1.98 million. Other disappearance totaled 62,000 during July. Cattle on Feed in Historic 7 Monthly States Down 14 Percent Cattle on feed August 1, 1996, in the historic 7 monthly States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 6.34 million, down 14 percent from the previous year and 7 percent below August 1, 1994. Placements in feedlots during July totaled 1.48 million, 6 percent above 1995 but 2 percent below 1994. Marketings during July totaled 1.68 million, 1 percent below 1995 but 8 percent above 1994. Other disappearance during July was 46,000 head, 6 percent below last year but 18 percent above 1994.
