U.S. Cattle on Feed Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.07 million head on November 1, 1996. Placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.99 million. Net placements were 2.91 million. During October, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 834,000, 600-699 pounds were 724,000, 700-799 pounds were 822,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 609,000. Marketings of fed cattle during October totaled 1.68 million. Other disappearance totaled 78,000 during October. Cattle on Feed in Historic 7 Monthly States Up 1 Percent Cattle on feed November 1, 1996, in the historic 7 monthly States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 8.54 million, up 1 percent from the previous year and up 7 percent from November 1, 1994. Placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.53 million, 11 percent above 1995 and 13 percent above 1994. Marketings during October totaled 1.42 million, 7 percent below 1995 and 6 percent below 1994. Other disappearance during October was 57,000 head, 12 percent above last year and 21 percent above 1994.
