Changes were made to price and value of production for all of the States and the U.S. for 2000 and 2001. The North Carolina potato price for 2001 on page 35 was corrected. Changes were also made to the 2001 North Carolina and U.S. value of production for potatoes. The Washington and U.S. 2000 spearmint price and value of production on page 39 was corrected. The U.S. price and value of production by crop on pages 6 and 7 and the U.S. price and value of production by State on pages 13 and 14 were corrected based on the changes mentioned above. Crop Values Marketing Year Average Prices and Value of Production, by States and United States, 1999, 2000, and 2001 "Crop Values" includes average prices and value of production for major field crops and many specialty crops. All prices in this report are marketing year average (MYA) prices which do not include allowances or adjustments for commodities under government loan at the end of the marketing year, commodities forfeited to the Commodity Credit Corporation, or crop deficiency and disaster payments. Each State MYA price is based on sales in the months comprising its marketing year, while U.S. marketing year averages are based on sales during the standard U.S. marketing year for each crop. See page 3 of this report for a listing of State and U.S. marketing years for selected crops. United States MYA prices for most crops are computed by weighting State MYA prices by the estimated quantity sold in each State. The exceptions are for corn, sorghum, oats, barley, wheat, rice, soybeans, flaxseed, sunflower, upland cotton, and dry edible beans which are computed by weighting U.S. monthly prices by monthly marketings for the U.S. marketing year. State MYA prices for these monthly crops are computed by weighting monthly prices by the monthly percentages of total sales during their marketing year. See page 4 for the list of States in the monthly price program for these crops. State and U.S. preliminary 2001 MYA prices for corn, sorghum, oats, barley, wheat, rice, soybeans, flaxseed, sunflower, upland cotton, dry edible beans, peanuts, and potatoes are based on entire month price data through December 2001. Except for cotton and peanuts, allowances are made for the portion of the 2001 crops to be marketed during the remainder of the 2001 marketing year. State MYA prices for crops not in the monthly price program are based on annual surveys. State value of production is computed by multiplying each State price by its' production. Value of production for the U.S. is the sum of State values for all States listed for the crop. Value of production estimates in this report relate to the crop year. These estimates should not be confused with cash receipts, which relate to sales during a calendar year irrespective of the year of production. Final 2001 MYA Price Publication Schedule August 2002 "Agricultural Prices" : Barley (All, Feed, and Malting), Hay, Oats, Rye, Wheat (All, Winter, Durum, and Other Spring). October 2002 "Agricultural Prices" : Upland and American-Pima Cotton and Cottonseed. November 2002 "Agricultural Prices" : Corn, Dry Beans, Flaxseed, Peanuts, Proso Millet, Sorghum, Soybeans, and Sunflowers. January 2003 "Agricultural Prices" : Rice. Marketing Year Average Prices Marketing year average prices received by farmers at the U.S. level for the crops listed below, with the exception of hay, are based on U.S. monthly prices weighted by monthly marketings during specific periods. These periods, by crop, are shown below. United States monthly prices are State average prices weighted by marketings during the month. The States included in monthly surveys generally account for 90 percent or more of total marketings and are shown on the next page. The monthly prices for hay are based on estimates derived from State marketing years and thus may extend over a period exceeding 12 months.
