Revised prices received for US 40 pound Blocks in 2007 resulted in changes to eight weeks ranging from 0.24 to -0.59 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Cheddar Cheese revised prices received for US 500 pound Barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture content in 2008 resulted in changes to thirty-seven weeks ranging from 1.7 to -5.14 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Revised prices received for US 500 pound Barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture content in 2007 resulted in changes to eleven weeks ranging from 1.03 to -2.00 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Butter revised prices received for 25 kilogram and 68 pound boxes meeting USDA Grade AA standards in 2008 resulted in changes to three weeks ranging from 0.06 to -0.43 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Revised prices received for 25 kilogram and 68 pound boxes meeting USDA Grade AA standards in 2007 resulted in changes to ten weeks ranging from 2.27 to -0.40 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Nonfat Dry Milk revised prices received for bag, tote and tanker sales meeting USDA Extra Grade or USPH Grade A standards in 2008 resulted in changes to nine weeks ranging from 0.24 to -0.34 cents per pound in NASS's weekly average price. Reliability of Dairy Products Prices Annual Estimates Procedures and Reliability: The Weekly Dairy Product Prices program consists of 92 qualifying manufacturing plants. There are 11 plants in the Atlantic Region, 26 plants in the East North Central Region, 3 plants in the South Central Region, 34 plants in the West Region, and 18 plants in the West North Central Region. Plants that report for multiple commodities are only counted once. Price information included in this report is provided each week by manufacturers of these products. Data are collected by fax and electronic mail each week for the previous week. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) conducts on-site plant reviews of larger entities that account for 80 percent of the yearly reported product volume of each specified dairy product at least once annually. AMS also conducts plant verifications with one-half of the entities that account for the remaining 20 percent each year, visiting each such entity at least once every other year. Price information collected is for the (wholesale) point of sale for: 1) Cheddar cheese in 40 pound blocks, colored between 6 and 8 on the National Cheese Institute color chart, meeting Wisconsin State Brand, USDA Grade A, or better standards. 2) Cheddar cheese in 500 pound barrels, white, meeting Wisconsin State Brand, USDA Grade A, or better standards. 3) Salted butter (80% butterfat), fresh or storage, in 25 kilogram and 68 pound boxes meeting USDA Grade AA standards. 4) Non-fortified, nonfat dry milk in 25 kilogram bags, 50 pound bags, totes, and tankers meeting USDA Extra Grade or USPH Grade A standards. 5) Edible non-hygroscopic dry whey in 25 kilogram bags, 50 pound bags, totes, and tankers meeting USDA Extra Grade standards. A transaction is complete when the product is "shipped out" and title transfers. Re-sales of purchased product, forward pricing and intra-company sales are excluded. Revision Policy: Revisions to previous estimates are made to improve current estimates. The previous two calendar years of estimates for the weekly dairy products prices are subject to verification by AMS. No revisions are made after that date.
