Geographic Regions Dairy Products State totals are not published when fewer than 3 firms have reported or one firm comprises more than 60 percent of the State total. If we are not able to publish a region for confidentiality reasons, it will be combined with other regions when possible. For example, if North Atlantic can not be published, then it will be combined with South Atlantic to publish Atlantic. The West North Central and East North Central will be combined, if necessary, to form North Central. In the event that neither could be published, they may be combined with South Central to publish Central. Some tables will have only limited regions shown, therefore the regions may not add to the United States total. Procedures and Reliability: Estimates included in this report are based on data provided each month by manufacturers of these products. In 32 States, the State Departments of Agriculture assist in collection of data, which eliminates duplicate reporting and reduces respondent burden. Data are collected by mail, personal and telephone interviews following the close of each month. There were 1,096 manufacturers that made one or more products in 2004. Each month, reports are generally received from all dairy plants in States with small numbers of plants. In States with large numbers of plants, survey procedures are designed to obtain monthly reports from all large plants and from a sample of small plants. Monthly estimates are based upon returns from about 70 percent of the plants which account for 70 to 90 percent of the total production of major dairy products. Revision Policy: Monthly estimates are subject to revision the month following the preliminary estimates. Annual estimates are published in the "Dairy Products" report published each April which includes any revisions made to current and previous year. An attempt is made to get information from all plants for preparing these estimates Index Page All Other Types of Cheese: Production by Month, State, and United States, 2004 and Total 2003-2004 31 Canned Milk and Dry Milk Products: Manufacturers' Shipments, Stocks, and Selling Prices, by Month, United States, 2003, Revised. . . . . . . . . . . . .14 Canned Milk and Dry Milk Products: Manufacturers' Shipments, Stocks, and Selling Prices, by Month, United States, 200415 Cheese Production Charts . . . .17 Dairy Plants: Number Manufacturing One or More Dairy Products by State and United States, 2000-2004 62 Frozen Products: Production by Month, United States, 2003, Revised8 Frozen Products: Production by Month, United States, 20049 Italian Cheese: Production, United States, 2003-2004 29 Italian Cheese: Production by Type, Region, and United States, 2003-2004 . . . . . . . . . . .29 Manufacturers' Whey Stocks and Selling Prices: Production by Month, United States, 2003, Revised12 United States, 2004 . . . .13 Miscellaneous Italian Cheese: Production by State, United States, 2003-2004 . . . . . . . . . . .29 Procedures and Reliability, and Revisions Policy67 Processed Cheeses and Combinations: Production, United States, 1994-2004 . . . . . . . . . . .30 ---continued Index (continued) Page Production by Month, State, and United States, 2004 and Total 2003-2004: Butter. . . . . . . . . . .32 Brick Cheese. . . . . . . .24 Cheddar Cheese. . . . . . .22 Cottage Cheese Curd . . . .35 Creamed Cottage Cheese. . .34 Dry Skim Milk for Animal Feed39 Dry Buttermilk. . . . . . .39 Dry Whey, Human Food. . . .40 Dry Whey, Animal Feed . . .41 Frozen Yogurt Mix . . . . .55 Hispanic Cheese . . . . . .25 Ice Cream, Lowfat, Total. .46 Ice Cream, Lowfat, Hard . .47 Ice Cream, Lowfat, Soft . .48 Ice Cream, Regular, Hard44 - 45 Ice Cream, Regular, Total42 - 43 Ice Cream Mix, Lowfat 58 - 59 Ice Cream Mix, Regular.56 - 57 Italian Cheese. . . . . . .26 Lowfat Cottage Cheese . . .33 Mozzarella Cheese . . . . .27 Muenster Cheese . . . . . .25 Nonfat Dry Milk for Human Food38 Other American Varieties of Cheese23 Other Frozen Dairy Products49 Other Italian Cheese. . . .28 Sherbet, Hard . . . . 52 - 53 Sherbet, Total. . . . 50 - 51 Sherbet Mix . . . . . 60 - 61 Swiss Cheese. . . . . . . .24 Total American Type Cheese20 - 21 Total Cheese, Excluding Cottage Cheese18 - 19 Unsweetened Condensed Skim Milk, Bulk36 Water and Juice Ices. . . .54 Yogurt, Plain and Flavored.37 Specified Products: Production by Month, United States., 2003, Revised. . . . . . . . . . . 2 - 4 Specified Products: Production by Month, United States, 2004, 5 - 7 Summary. . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 Supply and Utilization of Milk: United States, Butterfat and Solids Nonfat, 2003,. . . . . . . . 63-64 Supply and Utilization of Milk: United States, Butterfat and Solids Nonfat, 2004,. . . . . . . . 65-66 U.S. Geographical Regions. . . .16 Whey and Modified Whey Products: Production by Month, United States, 2003, Revised. .10 United States, 2004 . . . . . .11 Historic Dairy Products data is available on the NASS On-Line Database.
