HDR1012000110060228951500Peanut Stocks and Processing HDR2012000110060228951500Peanut Stocks and Narrative Released February 28, 1995, by the Agricultural Statistics Board. Stocks estimates refer to January 31, 1995; all other data are for the month of January. Peanut Stocks Up 4 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.86 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.75 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.92 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 868 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock. Roasting stock totaled 63.6 million pounds. There were 419 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of January 31, 1995. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 653 million pounds of which 633 million pounds were edible grades and 20.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 156 million pounds; Runners, 438 million pounds; and Spanish, 38.5 million pounds. January millings totaled 352 million pounds. Millings by type were 108.6 million pounds of Virginias, 223 million pounds of Runners, and 20.3 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 109 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during January. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 59.9 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 25.8 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 20.2 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 64.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2,195,558 pounds of peanut butter, 148,986 pounds of roasted peanuts, and 23,100 pounds of peanut granules during the month of January. Stocks of treated seed on hand January 31 totaled 1.18 million pounds, compared with 395,000 pounds on December 31, 1994. Of the January total, 1.12 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 60,000 pounds were Runners, and 5,000 pounds were Spanish. These Statistics are collected and presented according to the Peanut Statis- tics Act which requires shellers, crushers and processors of raw peanuts to submit periodic reports for their operations. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation. Allowances are made for these missing reports and revised totals are published in the next report. 1/ Excludes stocks on farms.
