Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 1995; all other data are for the month of March. Peanut Stocks Up 2 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.20 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.16 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.06 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.05 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock. Roasting stock totaled 87.8 million pounds. There were 123 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of March 31, 1995. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 792 million pounds of which 769 million pounds were edible grades and 22.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 197 million pounds; Runners, 527 million pounds; and Spanish, 45.2 million pounds. March millings totaled 407 million pounds. Millings by type were 94.7 million pounds of Virginias, 306 million pounds of Runners, and 6.01 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 113 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 60.3 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 29.7 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 19.7 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 96.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1,872,510 pounds of peanut butter and 36,864 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31 totaled 18.4 million pounds, compared with 3.26 million pounds on February 28, 1995. Of the March total, 6.35 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 11.9 million pounds were Runners, and 223,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 2.08 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.18 million pounds of Runners, and 5,000 pounds of Spanish. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation. Allowances are made for these missing reports and revised totals are published in the next report. 1/ Excludes stocks on farms.
