HDR1012000110060628951500PEANUT STOCKS AND PROCESSING HDR2012000110060628951500PNUT STKS HIGHLIGHTS Released June 28, 1995, by the Agricultural Statistics Board. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 1995; all other data are for the month of May. Peanut Stocks Down 1 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.52 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.53 billion pounds last year. This total includes 399 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.02 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock. Roasting stock totaled 97.1 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of May 31, 1995. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 769 million pounds of which 740 million pounds were edible grades and 28.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 201 million pounds; Runners, 494 million pounds; and Spanish, 44.5 million pounds. May millings totaled 314 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.1 million pounds of Virginias, 247 million pounds of Runners, and 1.27 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 115 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 62.0 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 27.2 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 23.2 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 91.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2,167,166 pounds of peanut butter and 43,866 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31 totaled 7.09 million pounds, compared with 24.5 million pounds on April 30, 1995. Of the May total, 2.07 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 3.40 million pounds were Runners, and 1.62 million pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 7.42 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 16.2 million pounds of Runners, and 890,000 pounds of Spanish. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation.
