Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 1997; all other data are for the month of June. Peanut Stocks Up 5 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.01 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 962 million pounds last year. This total includes 83.7 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 854 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock. Roasting stock totaled 72.6 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of June 30, 1997. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 642 million pounds of which 601 million pounds were edible grades and 41.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 115 million pounds; Runners, 440 million pounds; and Spanish, 46.0 million pounds. June millings totaled 165 million pounds. Millings by type were 19.1 million pounds of Virginias, 129 million pounds of Runners, and 16.2 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 121 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 56.1 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 34.4 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 28.2 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 33.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2,752,462 pounds of peanut butter, and 356,328 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30 totaled 2.27 million pounds, compared with 11.7 million pounds on May 31, 1997. Of the June total, 453,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 962,000 pounds were Runners, and 852,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 2.96 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 6.98 million pounds of Runners, and 1.79 million pounds of Spanish. Gr Lg 6 (7-97) Table 1. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation.
