Stocks estimates refer to July 31, 1997; all other data are for the month of July. Peanut Stocks Up 5 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 795 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 758 million pounds last year. This total includes 22.7 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 718 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock. Roasting stock totaled 53.8 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of July 31, 1997. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 540 million pounds of which 499 million pounds were edible grades and 41.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 91.3 million pounds; Runners, 369 million pounds; and Spanish, 39.0 million pounds. July millings totaled 60.9 million pounds. Millings by type were 5.78 million pounds of Virginias, 49.7 million pounds of Runners, and 5.44 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 118 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 60.8 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 29.4 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 24.2 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 23.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3,683,637 pounds of peanut butter, and 481,374 pounds of roasted peanuts during July. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31 totaled 1.22 million pounds, compared with 1.95 million pounds on June 30, 1997. Of the July total, 142,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 621,000 pounds were Runners, and 454,000 pounds were Spanish. June stocks of treated seed included 133,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 962,000 pounds of Runners, and 852,000 pounds of Spanish. Table 1. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation.
