Washington, D.C. Peanut Stocks and Processing Released August 27, 1999, by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, U.S. Department of Agriculture. Stocks estimates refer to July 31, 1999; all other data are for the month of June. Peanut Stocks Up From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.28 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, up from last year. This total includes 148 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.07 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of July 31, 1999. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 805 million pounds of which 789 million pounds were edible grades and 16.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were: Virginias, 150 million pounds; Runners, 617 million pounds; and Spanish, 21.6 million pounds. July millings totaled 186 million pounds. Millings by type were 23.7 million pounds of Virginias, 160 million pounds of Runners, and 1.87 million Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 158 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization for all peanut butter products was 59.2 million pounds, utilization for peanut candy was 31.4 million pounds, and utilization for snack peanuts was 29.4 million pounds. Crushing for oil, cake, and meal totaled 36.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2,758,520 pounds of peanut butter, and 44,496 pounds of roasted peanuts during July. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. See table 13 for the updated 1998 crop year monthly data. Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, totaled 287,000 pounds, compared with 489,000 pounds on June 30, 1999. Of the July total, 229,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 50,000 pounds were Runners, and 8,000 pounds were Spanish. June stocks of treated seed included 239,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 210,000 pounds of Runners, and 40,000 pounds of Spanish. Table 1. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts.
