Stocks estimates refer to April 30, 2000; all other data are for the month of April. Peanut Stocks Down 6 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.21 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.36 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.09 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.05 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 68.8 million pounds. There were 58.4 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of April 30, 2000. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 787 million pounds of which 762 million pounds were edible grades and 24.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 164 million pounds of Virginias, 556 million pounds of Runners, and 42.2 million pounds of Spanish. April millings totaled 353 million pounds. Millings by type were 71.9 million pounds of Virginias, 281 million pounds of Runners, and 560,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 168 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type were 57.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 53.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.70 million pounds of peanut butter and 88,866 pounds of roasted peanuts during April. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, totaled 37.6 million pounds, compared with 14.9 million pounds on March 31, 2000. Of the April total, 6.46 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 29.8 million pounds were Runners, and 1.39 million pounds were Spanish. March stocks of treated seed included 2.15 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 12.5 million pounds were Runners, and 328,000 pounds were Spanish. Table 1. These Statistics are collected and presented according to the Peanut Statistics Act which requires shellers, crushers, and processors of raw peanuts to submit periodic reports for their operations. These reports are usually based on a complete enumeration of all shellers and crushers and all of the larger processors of raw peanuts. However, reports are occasionally received too late to be included in the first tabulation. Allowances are made for these missing reports and revised totals are published in the next report. 1/ Excludes stocks on farms.
