Peanut Stocks Down 9 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.47 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.62 billion pounds last year. This total includes 332 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.07 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 66.4 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of June 30, 2000. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 808 million pounds of which 731 million pounds were edible grades and 77.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 123 million pounds of Virginias, 579 million pounds of Runners, and 28.5 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 323 million pounds. Millings by type were 54.9 million pounds of Virginias, 268 million pounds of Runners, and 514,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 123 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type were 55.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 46.8 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.53 million pounds of peanut butter and 76,846 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, totaled 465,000 pounds, compared with 16.6 million pounds on May 31, 2000. Of the June total, 243,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 170,000 pounds were Runners, and 52,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 3.18 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 12.3 million pounds were Runners, and 1.20 million pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2000; all other data are for the month of June.
