Peanut Stocks Down 16 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 901 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.07 billion pounds last year. This total includes 68.7 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 795 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 37.3 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of August 31, 2000. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 598 million pounds of which 550 million pounds were edible grades and 47.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 79.1 million pounds of Virginias, 445 million pounds of Runners, and 25.6 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 78.5 million pounds. Millings by type were 3.93 million pounds of Virginias, 71.4 million pounds of Runners, and 3.23 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 133 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type were 60.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 36.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 33.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 55.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.38 million pounds of peanut butter and 99,540 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, totaled 297,000 pounds, equal to last month. Of the August total, 220,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 75,000 pounds were Runners, and 2,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 223,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 72,000 pounds were Runners, and 2,000 million pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2000 all other data are for the month of August. This report contains revisions for August 1999 - July 2000 in Tables 14-25. Table 1.
