Peanut Stocks Down 20 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.58 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.24 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.93 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 620 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 33.5 million pounds. There were 150 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of October 31, 2000. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 466 million pounds of which 426 million pounds were edible grades and 40.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 65.4 million pounds of Virginias, 317 million pounds of Runners, and 43.6 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 380 million pounds. Millings by type were 109 million pounds of Virginias, 241 million pounds of Runners, and 30.1 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 134 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type were 62.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 33.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 36.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 40.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.53 million pounds of peanut butter and 83,142 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, totaled 288,000 pounds, compared with 302,000 pounds on September 30, 2000. Of the October total, 218,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 69,000 pounds were Runners, and 1,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 224,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 76,000 pounds were Runners, and 2,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2000.
