Peanut Stocks Down 16 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 3.08 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.65 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.26 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 777 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 47.2 million pounds. There were 215 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of December 31, 2000. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 584 million pounds of which 544 million pounds were edible grades and 39.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 94.7 million pounds of Virginias, 413 million pounds of Runners, and 36.6 million pounds of Spanish. December millings totaled 279 million pounds. Millings by type were 76.3 million pounds of Virginias, 198 million pounds of Runners, and 4.92 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 116 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type were 62.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 23.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 28.6 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 28.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.80 million pounds of peanut butter and 112,176 pounds of roasted peanuts during December. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, totaled 297,000 pounds, compared with 298,000 pounds on November 30, 2000. Of the December total, 228,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 68,000 pounds were Runners, and 1,000 pounds were Spanish. November stocks of treated seed included 228,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 69,000 pounds were Runners, and 1,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2000.
