Peanut Stocks Down 17 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.75 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.32 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.84 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 858 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 48.2 million pounds. There were 169 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of January 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 645 million pounds of which 611 million pounds were edible grades and 33.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 112 million pounds of Virginias, 454 million pounds of Runners, and 45.9 million pounds of Spanish. January millings totaled 361 million pounds. Millings by type were 89.9 million pounds of Virginias, 253 million pounds of Runners, and 18.3 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 116 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during January. Utilization by type were 63.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 25.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 25.6 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 33.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.90 million pounds of peanut butter and 50,814 pounds of roasted peanuts during January. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand January 31, totaled 448,000 pounds, compared with 297,000 pounds on December 31, 2000. Of the January total, 379,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 68,000 pounds were Runners, and 1,000 pounds were Spanish. December stocks of treated seed included 228,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 68,000 pounds were Runners, and 1,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to January 31, 2001.
