Peanut Stocks Down 18 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.53 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.09 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.50 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 972 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.5 million pounds. There were 166 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of February 28, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 731 million pounds of which 700 million pounds were edible grades and 30.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 137 million pounds of Virginias, 523 million pounds of Runners, and 39.2 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 352 million pounds. Millings by type were 74.2 million pounds of Virginias, 273 million pounds of Runners, and 5.54 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 109 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type were 62.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 25.6 million pounds for peanut candy, and 19.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 26.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.93 million pounds of peanut butter and 13,968 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, totaled 794,000 pounds, compared with 516,000 pounds on January 31, 2001. Of the February total, 725,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, and 68,000 pounds were Runners. January stocks of treated seed included 447,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 68,000 pounds were Runners. Stocks estimates refer to February 28, 2001.
