Peanut Stocks Down 17 Percent From Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 2.26 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.71 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.15 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.05 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 55.4 million pounds. There were 163 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of March 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 788 million pounds of which 759 million pounds were edible grades and 29.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 183 million pounds of Virginias, 537 million pounds of Runners, and 39.2 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 361 million pounds. Millings by type were 81.0 million pounds of Virginias, 277 million pounds of Runners, and 2.87 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 123 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type were 65.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 25.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 35.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.51 million pounds of peanut butter and 23,256 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. There were no deliveries of peanut granules during the month. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, totaled 19.9 million pounds, compared with 794,000 pounds on February 28, 2001. Of the March total, 2.73 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, and 17.0 million pounds were Runners. February stocks of treated seed included 725,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 68,000 pounds were Runners. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2001.
