Peanut Stocks Down 13 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.58 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.83 billion pounds last year. This total includes 435 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.09 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 63.5 million pounds. There were 32.0 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of May 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 816 million pounds of which 769 million pounds were edible grades and 46.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 187 million pounds of Virginias, 541 million pounds of Runners, and 41.2 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 291 million pounds. Millings by type were 55.0 million pounds of Virginias and 235 million pounds of Runners. Commercial processors utilized 132 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type were 69.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 29.6 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 33.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.52 million pounds of peanut butter and 57,726 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, totaled 4.84 million pounds, compared with 35.8 million pounds on April 30, 2001. Of the May total, 734,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 3.84 million pounds were Runners, and 269,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 6.85 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 27.5 million pounds were Runners, and 1.44 million pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2001. Select "Today's Reports" or Publications and then Reports by Calendar or Publications and then Search, by Title or Subject. E-MAIL SUBSCRIPTION There are two options for subscribing via e-mail. All NASS reports are available by subscription free of charge direct to your e-mail address. 1) Starting with the NASS Home Page at http://www.usda.gov/nass/, click on Publications, then click on the Subscribe by E-mail button which takes you to the page describing e-mail delivery of reports. Finally, click on Go to the Subscription Page and follow the instructions. 2) If you do NOT have Internet access, send an e-mail message to: usda-reports@usda.mannlib.cornell.edu. In the body of the message type the word: list. AUTOFAX ACCESS NASSFax service is available for some reports from your fax machine. Please call 202-720-2000, using the handset attached to your fax.
