Peanut Stocks Down 6 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 861 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 918 million pounds last year. This total includes 85.4 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 754 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 21.9 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of August 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 567 million pounds of which 554 million pounds were edible grades and 12.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 94.0 million pounds of Virginias, 433 million pounds of Runners, and 27.2 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 39.1 million pounds. Millings by type were 3.18 million pounds of Virginias, 35.3 million pounds of Runners, and 662,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 144 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type were 75.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 32.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 31.8 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.11 million pounds of peanut butter and 53,820 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, totaled 172,000 pounds, compared with 189,000 pounds on July 31, 2001. Of the August total, 143,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 25,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 159,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 25,000 pounds were Runners, and 5,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2001.
