Peanut Stocks Up 45 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 1.49 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.03 billion pounds last year. This total includes 830 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 648 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 16.1 million pounds. There were 89.5 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of September 30, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 487 million pounds of which 472 million pounds were edible grades and 14.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 72.9 million pounds of Virginias, 376 million pounds of Runners, and 22.9 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 132 million pounds. Millings by type were 22.9 million pounds of Virginias, 106 million pounds of Runners, and 2.75 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 133 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type were 66.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 33.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 31.6 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 25.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.00 million pounds of peanut butter and 124,938 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, totaled 171,000 pounds, compared with 172,000 pounds on August 31, 2001. Of the September total, 143,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 24,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 143,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 25,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2001.
