Peanut Stocks Up 46 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 3.77 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.58 billion pounds last year. This total includes 3.01 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 727 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 34.5 million pounds. There were 502 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of October 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 546 million pounds of which 524 million pounds were edible grades and 22.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 87.4 million pounds of Virginias, 406 million pounds of Runners, and 30.0 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 459 million pounds. Millings by type were 119 million pounds of Virginias, 317 million pounds of Runners, and 22.9 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 153 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type were 79.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 36.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.94 million pounds of peanut butter and 84,852 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, totaled 182,000 pounds, compared with 171,000 pounds on September 30, 2001. Of the October total, 154,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 24,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 143,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 24,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2001.
