Peanut Stocks Up 33 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 4.10 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.08 billion pounds last year. This total includes 3.21 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 837 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 47.3 million pounds. There were 798 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of December 31, 2001. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 630 million pounds of which 613 million pounds were edible grades and 16.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type were 122 million pounds of Virginias, 454 million pounds of Runners, and 36.2 million pounds of Spanish. December millings totaled 284 million pounds. Millings by type were 60.7 million pounds of Virginias, 208 million pounds of Runners, and 14.9 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 115 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type were 59.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 24.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 30.9 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.30 million pounds of peanut butter and 123,444 pounds of roasted peanuts during December. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, totaled 206,000 pounds, compared with 180,000 pounds on November 30, 2001. Of the December total, 179,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. November stocks of treated seed included 153,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2001.
