Peanut Stocks Up 41 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on January 31, 2002 totaled 3.88 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.75 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.89 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 939 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 51.0 million pounds. There were 798 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of January 31, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 706 million pounds of which 689 million pounds were edible grades and 16.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 136 million pounds of Virginias, 518 million pounds of Runners, and 36.0 million pounds of Spanish. January millings totaled 393 million pounds. Millings by type were 84.3 million pounds of Virginias, 302 million pounds of Runners, and 6.55 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 120 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during January. Utilization by type were 70.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 22.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 25.6 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 39.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.70 million pounds of peanut butter and 157,392 pounds of roasted peanuts during January. Stocks of treated seed on hand January 31, 2002 totaled 468,000 pounds, compared with 206,000 pounds on December 31, 2001. Of the January total, 441,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. December stocks of treated seed included 179,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds of Runners, and 4,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to January 31, 2002.
