Peanut Stocks Up 43 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on February 28, 2002 totaled 3.61 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.53 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.53 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.02 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 60.8 million pounds. There were 761 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of February 28, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 766 million pounds of which 742 million pounds were edible grades and 24.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 154 million pounds of Virginias, 548 million pounds of Runners, and 40.2 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 384 million pounds. Millings by type were 81.7 million pounds of Virginias, 288 million pounds of Runners, and 14.6 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 113 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type were 63.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 25.8 million pounds for peanut candy, and 22.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 45.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.89 million pounds of peanut butter and 101,790 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2002 totaled 947,000 pounds, compared with 468,000 pounds on January 31, 2002. Of the February total, 920,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. January stocks of treated seed included 441,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds of Runners, and 4,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to February 28, 2002.
