Peanut Stocks Up 47 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on March 31, 2002 totaled 3.33 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.26 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.16 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.11 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 62.0 million pounds. There were 717 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of March 31, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 832 million pounds of which 809 million pounds were edible grades and 23.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 171 million pounds of Virginias, 595 million pounds of Runners, and 43.6 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 380 million pounds. Millings by type were 71.4 million pounds of Virginias, 299 million pounds of Runners, and 9.52 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 123 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type were 65.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 28.8 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 57.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.74 million pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2002 totaled 8.10 million pounds, compared with 947,000 pounds on February 28, 2002. Of the March total, 3.00 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 5.10 million pounds were Runners, and 4,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 920,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23,000 pounds of Runners, and 4,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2002.
