Peanut Stocks Up 30 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on June 30, 2002 totaled 1.80 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.39 billion pounds last year. This total includes 692 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 1.03 billion pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 77.3 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of June 30, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 776 million pounds of which 761 million pounds were edible grades and 14.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 149 million pounds of Virginias, 569 million pounds of Runners, and 42.7 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 284 million pounds. Millings by type were 61.9 million pounds of Virginias, 206 million pounds of Runners, and 16.7 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 143 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type were 61.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 39.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.5 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 52.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.05 million pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2002 totaled 261,000 pounds, compared with 5.25 million pounds on May 31, 2002. Of the June total, 139,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 102,000 pounds were Runners, and 20,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 1.38 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 3.62 million pounds of Runners, and 247,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2002.
