Peanut Stocks Down 25 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on September 30, 2002 totaled 1.12 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.49 billion pounds last year. This total includes 582 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 507 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 30.8 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of September 30, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 381 million pounds of which 365 million pounds were edible grades and 16.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 79.4 million pounds of Virginias, 262 million pounds of Runners, and 23.5 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 184 million pounds. Millings by type were 5.00 million pounds of Virginias and 179 million pounds of Runners. Commercial processors utilized 139 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 68.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 35.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 33.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 57.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.14 million pounds of peanut butter and 172,800 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2002 totaled 148,000 pounds, compared with 148,000 pounds on August 31, 2002. Of the September total, 106,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 29,000 pounds were Runners, and 13,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 106,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 29,000 pounds of Runners, and 13,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2002.
