Peanut Stocks Down 48 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on October 31, 2002 totaled 1.97 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.78 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.37 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 560 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 37.5 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of October 31, 2002. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 421 million pounds of which 397 million pounds were edible grades and 23.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 75.6 million pounds of Virginias, 289 million pounds of Runners, and 32.8 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 394 million pounds. Millings by type were 59.8 million pounds of Virginias, 308 million pounds of Runners, and 26.3 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 140 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 75.7 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 29.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 57.8 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.86 million pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2002 totaled 144,000 pounds, compared with 148,000 pounds on September 30, 2002. Of the October total, 102,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 29,000 pounds were Runners, and 13,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 106,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 29,000 pounds of Runners, and 13,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2002.
