Peanut Stocks Down 43 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on February 28, 2003 totaled 2.06 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.61 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.30 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 712 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.5 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of February 28, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 536 million pounds of which 509 million pounds were edible grades and 26.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 78.2 million pounds of Virginias, 396 million pounds of Runners, and 35.6 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 327 million pounds. Millings by type were 63.8 million pounds of Virginias, 254 million pounds of Runners, and 9.00 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 116 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 66.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 21.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 26.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 36.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.33 million pounds of peanut butter. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2003 totaled 2.05 million pounds, compared with 1.29 million pounds on January 31, 2003. Of the February total, 827,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 1.21 million pounds were Runners, and 13,000 pounds were Spanish. January stocks of treated seed included 739,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 534,000 pounds of Runners, and 13,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to February 28, 2003.
