Peanut Stocks Down 45 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on March 31, 2003 totaled 1.83 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 3.33 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.02 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 758 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 52.5 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of March 31, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 570 million pounds of which 543 million pounds were edible grades and 27.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 76.1 million pounds of Virginias, 430 million pounds of Runners, and 36.1 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 387 million pounds. Millings by type were 53.8 million pounds of Virginias, 326 million pounds of Runners, and 7.39 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 131 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 72.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 28.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 42.7 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.52 million pounds of peanut butter and 67,824 pounds of roasted peanuts during March Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2003 totaled 29.8 million pounds, compared with 2.05 million pounds on February 28, 2003. Of the March total, 1.54 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 28.2 million pounds were Runners, and 17,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 827,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.21 million pounds of Runners, and 13,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2003.
