Peanut Stocks Down 40 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on April 30, 2003 totaled 1.73 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.89 billion pounds last year. This total includes 882 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 782 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 61.6 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of April 30, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 588 million pounds of which 565 million pounds were edible grades and 23.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 77.2 million pounds of Virginias, 445 million pounds of Runners, and 43.2 million pounds of Spanish. April millings totaled 374 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.5 million pounds of Virginias, 289 million pounds of Runners, and 19.6 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 130 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type was 73.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 25.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 29.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 47.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.52 million pounds of peanut butter and 66,528 pounds of roasted peanuts during April. Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, 2003 totaled 19.3 million pounds, compared with 21.5 million pounds on March 31, 2003. Of the April total, 2.73 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 16.4 million pounds were Runners, and 162,000 pounds were Spanish. March stocks of treated seed included 1.54 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 20.0 million pounds of Runners, and 17,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to April 30, 2003.
