Peanut Stocks Down 35 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on June 30, 2003 totaled 1.17 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.81 billion pounds last year. This total includes 315 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 794 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 62.3 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of June 30, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 597 million pounds of which 580 million pounds were edible grades and 17.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 68.8 million pounds of Virginias, 479 million pounds of Runners, and 32.0 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 324 million pounds. Millings by type were 37.2 million pounds of Virginias, 280 million pounds of Runners, and 7.48 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 141 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 69.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 40.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 29.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 43.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.12 million pounds of peanut butter and 135,648 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2003 totaled 1.89 million pounds, compared with 17.0 million pounds on May 31, 2003. Of the June total, 621,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 1.12 million pounds were Runners, and 145,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 2.66 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 13.8 million pounds of Runners, and 529,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2003.
