Peanut Stocks Down 38 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on July 31, 2003 totaled 919 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.48 billion pounds last year. This total includes 172 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 698 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 49.2 million pounds. There were no Commodity Credit Corporation uncommitted stocks on hand as of July 31, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 525 million pounds of which 504 million pounds were edible grades and 20.5 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 63.0 million pounds of Virginias, 412 million pounds of Runners, and 28.9 million pounds of Spanish. July millings totaled 170 million pounds. Millings by type were 22.5 million pounds of Virginias, 141 million pounds of Runners, and 6.36 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 142 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization by type was 75.2 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 37.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 41.9 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.41 million pounds of peanut butter and 67,824 pounds of roasted peanuts during July. Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, 2003 totaled 911,000 pounds, compared with 1.51 million pounds on June 30, 2003. Of the July total, 234,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 667,000 pounds were Runners, and 10,000 pounds were Spanish. June stocks of treated seed included 248,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.12 million pounds of Runners, and 145,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to July 31, 2003.
