Peanut Stocks Down 20 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on September 30, 2003 totaled 895 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.12 billion pounds last year. This total includes 506 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 372 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 17.0 million pounds. There were 1.62 million pounds of Commodity Credit Corporation stocks on hand as of September 30, 2003. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 280 million pounds of which 267 million pounds were edible grades and 13.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 45.9 million pounds of Virginias, 208 million pounds of Runners, and 13.1 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 181 million pounds. Millings by type were 9.91 million pounds of Virginias, 171 million pounds of Runners, and 266,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 142 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 73.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 37.1 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 37.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.41 million pounds of peanut butter and 67,824 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2003 totaled 396,000 pounds, compared with 396,000 pounds on August 31, 2003. Of the September total, 134,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, and 260,000 pounds were Runners. August stocks of treated seed included 134,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 260,000 pounds of Runners. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2003.
