Peanut Stocks Up 13 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks in commercial storage on October 31, 2003 totaled 2.23 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.98 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.79 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 415 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 27.9 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 312 million pounds of which 299 million pounds were edible grades and 12.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 50.9 million pounds of Virginias, 231 million pounds of Runners, and 16.8 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 417 million pounds. Millings by type were 70.0 million pounds of Virginias, 331 million pounds of Runners, and 15.4 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 148 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 77.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.6 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 50.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.72 million pounds of peanut butter and 206,064 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2003 totaled 396,000 pounds, compared with 396,000 pounds on September 30, 2003. Of the October total, 134,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, and 260,000 pounds were Runners. September stocks of treated seed included 134,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 260,000 pounds of Runners. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2003.
