Peanut Stocks Up 2 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 29, 2004 totaled 2.11 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.07 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.32 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 737 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 52.7 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 554 million pounds of which 537 million pounds were edible grades and 17.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 78.2 million pounds of Virginias, 430 million pounds of Runners, and 28.7 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 381 million pounds. Millings by type were 67.3 million pounds of Virginias, 295 million pounds of Runners, and 18.2 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 137 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 76.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 28.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 30.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 35.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.18 million pounds of peanut butter and 102,384 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 29, 2004 totaled 1.77 million pounds, compared with 1.11 million pounds on January 31, 2004. Of the February total, 314,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, and 1.45 million pounds were Runners. January stocks of treated seed included 193,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 910,000 pounds of Runners. Stocks estimates refer to February 29, 2004.
