Peanut Stocks Up 21 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2004 totaled 1.40 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 1.16 billion pounds last year. This total includes 476 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 847 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 79.6 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 637 million pounds of which 619 million pounds were edible grades and 17.7 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 88.1 million pounds of Virginias, 488 million pounds of Runners, and 43.2 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 309 million pounds. Millings by type were 60.4 million pounds of Virginias, 242 million pounds of Runners, and 6.04 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 156 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 75.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 36.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 42.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 32.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 969,280 pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2004 totaled 930,000 pounds, compared with 12.3 million pounds on May 31, 2004. Of the June total, 121,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 758,000 pounds were Runners, and 51,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 2.44 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 9.70 million pounds of Runners, and 212,00 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2004.
