Peanut Stocks Up 28 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on July 31, 2004 totaled 1.12 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 875 million pounds last year. This total includes 235 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 826 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 60.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 621 million pounds of which 604 million pounds were edible grades and 17.7 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 81.6 million pounds of Virginias, 496 million pounds of Runners, and 25.5 million pounds of Spanish. July millings totaled 240 million pounds. Millings by type were 24.8 million pounds of Virginias, 211 million pounds of Runners, and 3.67 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 144 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization by type was 82.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 26.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 24.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.04 million pounds of peanut butter and 343,008 pounds of roasted peanuts during July. Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, 2004 totaled 428,000 pounds, compared with 930,000 pounds on June 30, 2004. Of the July total, 109,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 279,000 pounds were Runners, and 40,000 pounds were Spanish. June stocks of treated seed included 121,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 758,000 pounds of Runners, and 51,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to July 31, 2004.
