Peanut Stocks Up 25 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2004 totaled 727 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 579 million pounds last year. This total includes 67.2 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 620 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 39.6 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 466 million pounds of which 457 million pounds were edible grades and 9.01 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 65.5 million pounds of Virginias, 373 million pounds of Runners, and 18.9 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 172 million pounds. Millings by type were 28.7 million pounds of Virginias, 141 million pounds of Runners, and 2.65 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 158 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 85.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 33.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 36.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 21.8 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.95 million pounds of peanut butter and 102,384 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2004 totaled 344,000 pounds, compared with 428,000 pounds on July 31, 2004. Of the August total, 110,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 200,000 pounds were Runners, and 34,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 109,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 279,000 pounds of Runners, and 40,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2004.
