Peanut Stocks Up 12 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2004 totaled 983 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 881 million pounds last year. This total includes 470 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 489 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 23.9 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 368 million pounds of which 357 million pounds were edible grades and 11.0 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 56.1 million pounds of Virginias, 287 million pounds of Runners, and 13.4 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 124 million pounds. Millings by type were 17.1 million pounds of Virginias, 106 million pounds of Runners, and 354,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 168 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 78.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 41.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 46.9 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 10.7 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.73 million pounds of peanut butter and 101,088 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2004 totaled 298,000 pounds, compared with 344,000 pounds on August 31, 2004. Of the September total, 101,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 164,000 pounds were Runners, and 33,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 110,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 200,000 pounds of Runners, and 34,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2004.
