Peanut Stocks Up 4 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2004 totaled 2.29 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.21 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.74 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 523 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 26.5 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 393 million pounds of which 376 million pounds were edible grades and 17.2 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 59.2 million pounds of Virginias, 306 million pounds of Runners, and 10.8 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 352 million pounds. Millings by type were 69.8 million pounds of Virginias, 278 million pounds of Runners, and 3.89 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 168 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 87.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 37.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.5 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 23.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.10 million pounds of peanut butter and 34,560 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2004 totaled 279,000 pounds, compared with 298,000 pounds on September 30, 2004. Of the October total, 105,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 141,000 pounds were Runners, and 33,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 101,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 164,000 pounds of Runners, and 33,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2004.
