Peanut Stocks Up 4 Percent from Last Year Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on December 31, 2004 totaled 2.42 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared to 2.33 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.74 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 642 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 40.2 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 483 million pounds of which 462 million pounds were edible grades and 20.3 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 87.0 million pounds of Virginias, 353 million pounds of Runners, and 22.1 million pounds of Spanish. December millings totaled 362 million pounds. Millings by type were 78.1 million pounds of Virginias, 264 million pounds of Runners, and 20.5 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 138 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type was 73.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 26.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 36.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 27.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.81 million pounds of peanut butter and 69,120 pounds of roasted peanuts during December. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, 2004 totaled 519,000 pounds, compared with 302,000 pounds on November 30, 2004. Of the December total, 155,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 331,000 pounds were Runners, and 33,000 pounds were Spanish. November stocks of treated seed included 105,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 164,000 pounds of Runners, and 33,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2004.
