Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization up 12 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.85 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 28, 2005 totaled 2.85 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.16 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.90 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 890 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 57.9 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 670 million pounds of which 649 million pounds were edible grades and 21.0 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 118 million pounds of Virginias, 507 million pounds of Runners, and 23.9 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 405 million pounds. Millings by type were 74.6 million pounds of Virginias, 329 million pounds of Runners, and 1.14 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 136 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 73.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 28.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.1 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 28.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.66 million pounds of peanut butter and 99,792 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2005 totaled 1.62 million pounds, compared with 1.20 million pounds on January 31, 2005. Of the February total, 394,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 1.20 million pounds were Runners, and 33,000 pounds were Spanish. January stocks of treated seed included 158,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.01 million pounds of Runners, and 33,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to February 28, 2005.
